I worked with program directors and faculty to design this year’s poster. Throughout the design process, I had two main goals: a smooth, easy-to-read layout, and a bold aesthetic that highlights the artists. It was also important to incorporate elements from across the diverse fields of art which SVAD students explore. This design pays homage to the original Polaroid rainbow with a paintbrush twist and 70’s movie poster layout. The rainbow pattern allows for convenient section blocking, each color stripe containing a different artist’s bust and information. https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5c15729729711462bb08bbf0/t/5cf66e272eac200001e7bbbf/1559653927489/ Work - How to Design a Nighttime Garden (Garden & Gun Magazine) For this client, my partner and I were tasked with adapting an instructional magazine article into an animated explainer video. In addition to motion design, we gained experience in a wide range of production skills including copy editing, illustration, and sound design. In order to ensure our final product best aligned with the magazine’s distinctly Southern brand, we underwent several rounds of design iterations. We decided to use a “watercolor” aesthetic, as it carries the whimsical charm of the original article as well as the elegance of the magazine’s greater style. This project was an excellent experience in good communication leading to great creations. From remotely coordinating the production process to learning how to articulate and negotiate design choices, I found that good collaboration is key to making anything that reaches further than yourself. https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5c15729729711462bb08bbf0/t/5cf68265aa01c70001149e47/1559658780706/ Work - Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy (VRET) This prototype for a Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy (VRET) program aims to help people overcome their phobias in a controlled environment that is both safe and cost-effective. Built for the Oculus Rift headset, it simulates three of the most common phobias (fear of spiders, heights, and public speaking). I gained experience with the creative process of game development software (Unity3D) and how to bring it to life through code (Javascript). This project intersected my greatest passions: arts, technology, and psychology.
